Team Roping Partner Finder Apps: What's Out There, and Where Steer Me Fits

If you've ever typed "need a heeler" into a Facebook group at 9pm the night before a roping, you already know the problem. Finding a team roping partner still mostly happens through word of mouth, group chats, and whoever answers their phone first. A handful of apps have shown up to help with this, and they're not all doing the same job. Here's an honest rundown of what's out there, and where Steer Me fits into it.

What's already out there for roping partners

Event calendars with casual partner posts. Apps like Roping Finder (around $8/month) are built mainly to list upcoming jackpots, with a comment section where you can post something like "need a heeler for Saturday." That's genuinely useful for finding out what's happening near you. What it doesn't do: match you by classification, verify anyone's card number, or hand off into an actual draw. You're still trusting a stranger's comment and hoping the numbers work out.

Desktop jackpot draw software. Tools like Carlsen RMP (roughly $189–299/year), Roping Assistant Pro, and Team Rope America / Charlie Horse are built for the producer running the event — handling the on-site draw, times, and payouts. They're solid at that job. But they're desktop-bound, built for the person running the roping, not the person entering it. There's little to no app for entrants, and basically nothing that helps you line up a partner before you show up.

Full association and rodeo platforms. Software like Rodeo Producer (Team Roping Producer) and Rodeo Ready handles memberships, online entry, draws, and standings — real infrastructure, but built for associations and rodeo circuits. It's heavier than what most weekend jackpot ropers need, and it's not trying to be a social partner-finding tool. You go there already knowing who you're entering with.

Handicap and entry apps. Global Roping (from Equine Network / Global Handicaps) lets you enter sanctioned events, check results, and watch livestreams. Useful if you're chasing sanctioned points, but it's not built as a general partner finder, and it doesn't run an independent jackpot producer's draw.

Stats and contact-list tools. Apps like RopeMetrics and Team Roping Buddy are good for tracking your own numbers and keeping a list of people you've partnered with before. Handy for your own records, but neither one is a live matching marketplace — they won't help you find someone new for next weekend.

Where Steer Me fits

Steer Me was built to sit in the gap all of that leaves open: actually finding a partner, by classification, tied to a real event, before you ante up.

Here's what that looks like in the app:

• Browse upcoming ropings with real attendance counts — including some posted straight from public fliers even when the producer isn't running Draw Pro.

• Find a partner by classification, or post a "looking for a partner" request tied to a specific event, instead of hoping the right comment shows up on Facebook.

• For events run through Draw Pro, enter the actual draw right from the event card — no blind-draw line at the window.

• Track your team number and live, round-by-round results — times, penalties, broken barriers, one-leg catches, No Time — right on your phone.

• Accept or decline an "extra run" charge from your phone instead of getting tracked down in person.

• Cancel an entry before the draw without a phone call.

Worth being straight about the limits: the draw-entry and live-results features only work for events whose producer is actually running Draw Pro. For everyone else, Steer Me still works as a place to browse ropings and find a partner by classification — you just won't get the live results feed on those events.
